In the USA alone, that equates to one person diagnosed every ~3 minutes and one death every ~9 minutes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These haematologic cancers are divided into three main subtypes. In order of global prevalence, they are:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin: 20px;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Lymphoma (~50%)<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> Develops in the lymphatic system<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Leukaemia (~37%)<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> Located in bone marrow and blood due to excessive abnormal white blood cell production<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Multiple Myeloma (~13%)<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> Formed by malignant plasma cells, generally in bone marrow\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other variants include Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN), though they\u2019re among over 100 rarer types of blood cancer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the mortality numbers and global reach, survival rates have in fact quadrupled since the 1960\u2019s. As Professor Robin Fo\u00e0, Professor of Hematology at &#8220;Sapienza&#8221; University of Rome, says:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe cure rates for patients with haematological malignancies are constantly improving. A close interaction between the clinic and the laboratory is required for a rapid and precise diagnostic and prognostic work-up of patients and for always more personalized and targeted treatment strategies during the follow-up.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But these numbers show we still have a way to go \u2013 which is why <\/span><b>Blood Cancer Awareness Month throughout September<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is so important to educate more people on symptoms and treatments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the UK, for instance, Blood Cancer UK found that over half of adults cannot name any symptoms of blood cancer, which include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin: 20px;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unexplained weight loss, bruising, bleeding, fever, rash<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lumps or swellings<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Breathlessness<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extreme night sweats<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persistent, recurrent or severe infections<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joint, bone or stomach pain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persistent fatigue<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paleness<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alongside sharing what to look out for, greater awareness will also help to further the research to help beat blood cancers altogether.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples of the latest research include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin: 20px;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Current and future therapies for marginal zone Lymphoma <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/touchoncology.com\/lymphoma\/journal-articles\/current-and-future-therapies-for-marginal-zone-lymphoma\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><b><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">READ NOW<\/span><\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oral therapies for Multiple Myeloma <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/touchoncology.com\/multiple-myeloma\/journal-articles\/oral-therapies-for-multiple-myeloma\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><b><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">READ NOW<\/span><\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/touchoncology.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touchONCOLOGY<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> supports Blood Cancer Awareness Month and its global effort to educate more people on the symptoms and treatments available for blood cancer.
